Since 1975, Seed Savers Exchange members have passed on approximately one million samples of rare garden seeds to other gardeners. The non-profit organization of gardeners is dedicated to saving and sharing heirloom seeds.

The central figure is the May Queen who marches from station to station to receive the admirations of Earth, Air, Fire, etc.  Her "White Women" are tempted by Red Men.  Eventually the foliage of last year is stripped from her escort whom she then brings back to life.   Blue men act as security and crowd control, whipping those who will not obey.  Columns are a landmark of Calton Hill.

  • The Autumn Corn Festival in Haxtun, Colorado celebrates the areas agriculture by naming Crop Kings.  This year, for the third year in a row, the Irrigated Corn King was Mark Gueck  He rode in the parade down main street with the other crop kings on a Soil Conservation Service float.  Here he is seen before the parade on the local Coop elevator float put together by a friend.

  • Children try on their elaborate costumes for their part as "horses" during the St. Margaret's Hope Gala in August.  The gala in the little South Ronaldsay community features boys plowing at the Sands of Wright outside of town, a century old competition.  Each plow is accompanied by a "horse," with the mothers of the children assembling highly decorated costumes for the competition, which can be quite fierce.

  • Georges Cadoudal, one of the legendary pipers of Brittany, organized a small country Fest Noz in his tiny hamlet near Plouye, Brittany.  The muscians gathered in his home for a big festive meal and then they all gathered to play under the old barn nearby. Homemade cidre was served from a small cart.
